Automotive engineers are responsible for performing and analyzing various automobile tests. These professionals must be able to efficiently and effectively read and interpret data to improve vehicle performance and production. An automobile designer is a professional who researches and designs new vehicles. These individuals focus on creating new car designs that incorporate the latest safety and operation technologies, meet necessary regulations and offer consumers a comfortable and aesthetically-pleasing product. They may design any road vehicle, including cars, trucks, motorcycles and buses.

You will learn how to apply computer-aided engineering and industrial-standard software, recommended by the Automotive Industry Advisory Panel. However, we have a flexible approach to admissions and each application will be considered on an individual basis. Run by internationally recognised academics, our BEng and MEng give you the expertise needed to become a professional engineer in the automotive industry – or provide you with the skillset to take up a career in motorsport. The nature of a job as an engineer in almost any company requires you to work well in a team. University is really good at preparing you for that and therefore most of your assignments will require you to work well in a team.

A significant proportion of placement students at Surrey are offered graduate-level jobs or go onto postgraduate study. If you don’t meet our entry requirements, you might still be able to apply for this course with a foundation year. A course with a foundation year includes an extra year of study to prepare you for a full degree course.

Our Campus

There may be occasions when the delivery of your teaching is supported by graduate teaching assistants. The University has a set of procedures that govern the use of postgraduate research students in this way. Each semester consists of a period of teaching, revision/directed learning and assessment. We offer careers information, advice and guidance to all students whilst studying with us, which is extended to our alumni for three years after leaving the University.

  • In your first year you will be taught the fundamentals of engineering, which you will build on in later years according to your interests.
  • You could work on industry-related projects for companies such as Mercedes-AMG Petronas or Veitis Motorcycles, to practise and apply your skills to real engineering projects.

  • The simulators include the same software and calculations used by professional racing teams.
  • The MEng builds on the BEng with a masters year and is a direct route to a masters qualification.

The only thing better than winning the 2014 World Championships with Mercedes, would be to win it again with Ferrari. Without the unforgettable experiences I shared with my peers and staff at the University, I don’t believe I’d have had the courage to take on this challenge. This is my guide to all engineering facilities, how I use them and how you can benefit from them. Managing your time wisely is crucial for succeeding at university and later on in life. So, a piece of advice I could give to you would be to learn to regularly check your schedule and plan out your activities at least a week in advance.

The form of delivery will be determined in accordance with government and public health guidance. Placements are a great way to gain real-world experience and put your learning into context. If you do not currently meet the level required for your programme, we offer intensive pre-sessional English language courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies here. If you are an international student and you don’t meet the entry requirements to this degree, we offer the International Foundation Year, run by the Surrey International Study Centre. Applicants taking the Extended Project Qualification will receive our standard A-level offer, plus an alternate offer of one A-level grade lower, subject to achieving an A grade in the EPQ. Throughout your studies, you’ll learn to use state-of-the-art tools for vehicle analysis and development, such as computer-aided design, finite element method, fluid dynamics and vehicle dynamics software. Our University Open Days give you the chance to visit the School of Engineering, see the facilities, meet staff and students, tour the campus and get a real feel for life at Warwick. If you apply to study at Warwick and are subsequently made an offer, you may also be invited to an Offer Holder Open Day.

University Of Sunderland

Both LRCs have study rooms with projectors and desks, which make them very convenient for group gatherings. Both LRCs are identical, and you will use the one that is closer to your accommodation, regardless if it is on-campus or off-campus. If you, for any reason, wish to go to the LRC located further away from you, there is a shuttle bus that can take you from one campus to the other in less than five minutes. If the weather is nice and you wish to walk instead of taking the bus, it’ll take you less than 15 minutes to get from one campus to the other.

You can access the University’s online library, where you can find any book that you can otherwise find at the LRC. Most books related to engineering have online copies available, so if you feel more comfortable studying at the comfort of your home, rest assured you can do so. The LRCs have many computers, equipped with all software you use in class, and there are laptops for loan. There are study rooms you can book, especially useful for group gatherings, there are desks you can study at, or if you prefer silence, the last floor of each LRC is for silence study. If you study better at complete isolation, there are silent rooms, designed for just a single person (they are perfect if you don’t want to get distracted by anything). If you want to take a break, each library has a café, which offers a range of snacks, as well as coffee.
